If you are a bookish person, and on Twitter… odds are that you’ve heard of the Bookalicious Book Club. I’ve been a member of this Canadian book club since venturing into the tweeting world and have participated in a number of their book chats, so it is EXTREMELY exciting for me that the topic for the November 5th Book Club Chat is going to be none other than “The Mark of the Hummingbird!”
Burying the truth in the snow can’t conceal it forever.
Leona was born a survivor—one of the few sheltered in a prison that withstood the plummeting temperatures of the frozen days. Now, as the weather slowly warms, she struggles to understand a culture and society vastly different than the one created by her elders. Standing on the cusp of her seventeenth birthday, the day she will officially become a woman and eligible for marriage, the tiny world she had long since accepted suddenly seems stifling. Conflicts and curiosity propel her beyond the fences of her home into a barren and uncertain future, with one asset that just might keep her alive.
I’m so excited to chat with the Bookalicious members in November about this book, and even more excited to hear what they think! Wanda and the rest of the crew are so wonderful and I love hearing what people have to say about the books they read. If you aren’t a member of the Bookalicious Book Club, you really should be (free books, chats and did I mention… free books?). Click here to join! (Scroll down to the form to enter your info).
In honor of this upcoming book chat, I gave away 20 paperback copies of “The Mark of the Hummingbird” to book club members, but if you didn’t win, don’t despair! More opportunities to win will happen with giveaway tweets (follow @BookaliciousCA so you don’t miss them), so just retweet to be entered to win! There will be 5 free eBooks of “The Mark of the Hummingbird” up for grabs (to anyone, anywhere!) and also a paperback copy of “The Song of the Sisters” (This one is for Bookalicious Canada members, so make sure you sign up!)
Well actually it was called Song of The Sisters. You may have heard of it…
flattery will get you everywhere.
oh, hmm, that would be Night Film by Marisha Pessl.
The Book of Negroes
Intrigued! What will become of Leona? What is it that will give her the strength to survive?
Well, if I told you that, I’d be breaking the #1 rule of Book Club! hahah!
“Secret Revealed”
There have been a few!

That’s quite the list! I see a few Bookalicious picks in there!
LOL! I’m a BookaliciousBookClub member for life! Let’s face it, Wanda’s picks are always a great read! Looking forward to reading yours! 😉
Here’s hoping we don’t bring that streak to a screeeeeeeching halt! hahahah! I really hope you enjoy it!
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer
Truth be told.
Mating for Life
Gone Girl. Before that it was Song of the Sisters (truth!).
Besos, Sarah
Blogger at Journeys of The Zoo
The Night Circus
Oh that gave me a serious book hangover too.
me too. It was one of those “amazed at the author’s brain” kind of books.
And the Mountains Echoed
Its been a while since I joined the chat and would love to participate and chat with all the regular book lovers 🙂
Swimming at Night by Lucy Clarke! It was also the subject of a Bookalicious book chat!
For me, it was the Angelic Letters Series by a fabulous Saskatchewan author Henry Ripplinger. I highly recommend these books to anyone and everyone.
Haven’t heard of those, I’ll have to check it out!
BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP, by S.J. Watson. It’s coming out soon as a feature film starring Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth. Amazing, chilling thriller!
I just read Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty and it was pretty amazing! Great twist at the end!
“Then and Always” by Dani Atkins.
I’ve actually had a book hangover from Rush by Eve Silver!
I haven’t read that one, I’ll have to check it out!
The Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling.
Into the Woods (Tana French)
Sound like a page turner!
*fingers crossed*
Book hangover: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.
Know The Night by Maria Mutch would have been the most recent.
I have read some good books but none that really stayed with me afterwards like Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult. I love a book that leaves you thinking and looking back over what you read when there is a big twist at the end.
There have been so many! Lately though, I really enjoyed The Light Between Oceans and The Husband’s Secret.
The last book to give me a book hangover would be “Left Neglected” by Lisa Genova.
The last book that gave me a book hangover is a classic, Les Miserables. I have read it 10 times
Gone Girl
YAY!! I really want to be able to read the book by then. You come hang out with my kids for awhile, and I’ll be able to get it done. You don’t mind the crossing borders thing to watch someone’s kids for free, right? But I will be there, Twitter-chatting !
Totally! As long as after that you come watch my kids so I can get my writing done. Good grief, how do people get anything done with children?
Book One was a great read! The synopsis for Book Two has me hooked on it already.
